Ah Bulan doesn't feel like a routine campaign checkpoint. He feels like the moment Vessel of Hatred stops being a guided tour and starts asking if your build actually works. Before stepping into the Spirit Realm sanctum, it's worth checking your gear, upgrading weak slots, and making sure your D4 items aren't several levels behind your character, because this fight punishes sloppy preparation almost at once.
Why This Fight Catches Players Off GuardThe first shock is his damage. A lot of players reach Ah Bulan after cruising through Nahantu without thinking too much about armor, life, or resistances. Then one spear sweep lands, Vulnerable appears, and the health bar just drops. It's not subtle. On higher difficulties, even a basic-looking attack can feel unfair if you've ignored defensive tempers or skipped upgrades at the blacksmith. Dropping the difficulty isn't a failure, by the way. If the campaign has turned into a corpse run, lowering it for this one wall is a perfectly normal move.
Reading His Main AttacksAh Bulan carries a spear and shield, and most of his worst pressure comes from the front. Don't stand there trying to trade. His rapid thrusts are quick, and the warning isn't huge, so the safer habit is simple: move diagonally, slip around his side, and hit him from behind. When he leans back and plants the spear, watch for the Spirit Spiral. The orbs spread outward, and panicking usually gets you clipped. Step through the gaps instead. His leap is easier to read, since the landing circle gives you a short chance to dodge away before the impact.

Last splitThree clones appear with the real bossKite wide, group them up, then burst
The clone phases are where most deaths happen. Once two copies appear, don't split your damage across everything on screen. Pick one target and delete it. The arena calms down the moment one clone dies. Later, when three clones show up, standing still is asking for trouble. Run the edge of the room, drag them into a messy pile, and use your biggest area damage while still moving.
Useful Prep Before Going Back InBring an elixir that helps your weak point, usually armor or max life. Make sure your potion upgrades aren't behind your level. If you're solo, hire a mercenary before the fight. Raheir is great when you need breathing room, while Subo can help with control and utility. Builds with poor self-healing should play more patiently than usual. Take the small enemies seriously too, because they're not just filler. They block movement, force bad dodges, and sometimes drop the potion charges that keep the run alive.
Getting Past the WallOnce Ah Bulan falls, the Spirit Realm path opens again and the campaign can move forward without that awful stop-start frustration. The reward is nice, but the real win is learning the rhythm: don't face-tank, don't tunnel the boss during clone phases, and don't be stubborn about gear. If your character still feels underpowered, many players compare upgrades, farm better rolls, or choose to buy cheap D4 items before pushing deeper into Nahantu with a build that can actually survive pressure.
